Project Description

The project involved the extensive refurbishment and extensions to a detached seaside two storey house along the Hythe coast for the owners. The property was in need of modernisation internally and externally to transform it from a building that very easily blended into its surroundings into a spectacular piece of modern Architecture. This was achieved by adding an additional storey that provides a master bedroom and large living room that both provide unhindered views along the coast. Further improvements were also provided by a two storey side extension providing an extended kitchen and bedroom. Sustainability was also a key consideration with the incorporation of photo-voltaic panels, a bio-mass boiler and external insulation to the existing envelope.

Added Value

The added value was achieved by working closely with the owners to realise their vision for the property, with the end result meeting their aspirations. This can be seen by comparing the CGI to the finished house, with the transformation even more evident when comparing pre and post-completion photographs. Some of the work was carried out directly by the owners and therefore required clear detailing, and the main build element was completed by a local builder managed closely by the owners. The critical challenge was to detail the additional storey to ensure the junction between the new and existing produced an end product that appeared as a single property rather a building with extensions.
