Project Description

Lenworth House consists of the refurbishment of a late Georgian detached property in central Maidstone, the first development to be completed under Maidstone Borough Council's new Housing Development and Investment Plan.  The scheme provides 8no. private rental flats within the converted existing building plus the construction of a 3 storey block to the rear of the existing building providing 6no. private rental flats, with additional provision of an undercroft car park providing much needed parking within the town centre.

Critical Challenges

The critical challenge on this project was the refurbishment of a very aged, damaged existing building trying to treat all types of construction/refurbishment problems encountering damp, wet/dry rot, water ingress, statutory restrictions and challenging ground conditions. Martin Arnold wanted to ensure quality and efficiency throughout the project to present Maidstone Borough Council with their first Private Rented units.

Martin Arnold provided Clerk of Works and Employers Agent services for Maidstone Borough Council.  The appointed staff supported, advised, expertly inspected the property and led on project team meetings to ensure the 14 apartments were fully compliant and completed to the highest possible specification. - Alison Elliot
