Working with the London Borough of Harrow, Martin Arnold have delivered the first Council Housing in the Borough in more than 30 years. With 3 of the 7 sites now completed, the Mayor, Margaret Davine, attended the opening on the 14th September and met with residents who were excited to move into their brand new homes.
Working across 7 different sites, delivering a mix of affordable rented homes and private units for sale, the London Borough of Harrow had identified low value sites, including run down garages and disused hardstandings and created Hidden Homes for local people. The sites vary in size and nature and due to their individuality, which meant that they each had their own unique set of risks and design restrictions.
Before starting on site, we worked with our client’s design team to ensure the optimal design and use of materials in planning the schemes to suit each of the sites’ conditions. We also consulted with local communities on the benefits of developing the sites, including removing anti-social behaviour and improving the local environmental conditions.
We worked with London Borough of Harrow’s procurement and legal team to deliver the tendering process through their portal based system which helps local labour and local firms to access the council’s business opportunities.
Once on site we effectively managed multiple contracts with multiple contractors over a number of different sites. Despite the number of different variables, the contractors still achieved our client’s time, cost and quality standards.
